> Six picks for after Nathan Fielder's Elizabeth Holmes film. Three tell the Theranos story, a book, a documentary and a series. Three are Nathan Fielder's own shows.

**Tags:** movies, books, recommendations, cross-media

---

Start with *The Inventor*, Alex Gibney's 2019 HBO documentary, if you want a Theranos documentary in under two hours. Start with *The Rehearsal* if what stayed with you about *You Can See Everything* is Nathan Fielder's way of working. The rest is a book, a series and two more Fielder shows, grouped below by the thread they follow.

The film (just under three hours, from Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, in US theaters from October 16, 2026) is two things at once: a record of Elizabeth Holmes in the weeks before prison, and a Nathan Fielder project. So the follow-ups split into two threads. Three picks cover the Holmes story, in three media. Three are Fielder's own shows.

## Why This List Crosses Media

The Theranos story has a book, a documentary and a miniseries, and Fielder's work spans three separate shows. This list is books, films and series at once, which is what [Achriom](https://www.achriom.com) is for: it keeps books, films, shows, albums, anime, podcasts and games in one library, free with no item limit. Each pick below has a page there. The [You Can See Everything page](https://www.achriom.com/movie/you-can-see-everything-2026) has the trailer and a one-tap rating, and an Add to library button.

If you already keep a log on Goodreads, Letterboxd or Trakt, you can import that history into Achriom, and those apps stay good for a single medium. Once the picks are on your shelf, you can ask the library in plain words, something like "what do I have that's about Theranos," and it answers from what you have kept. For picking a film tracker on its own, see [Best Movie Tracking Apps in 2026](/blog/best-movie-tracking-apps/) and [Letterboxd vs Trakt](/blog/letterboxd-vs-trakt/).

## The Holmes Story

### Bad Blood

![Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou (2018)](/blog/assets/what-to-watch-after-you-can-see-everything/bad-blood-secrets-and-lies-in-a-silicon-valley-startup-book.jpg)

John Carreyrou was the Wall Street Journal reporter whose October 2015 reporting questioned Theranos's claim that it could run a wide range of lab tests from a tiny blood sample. *Bad Blood* (Knopf, May 21, 2018) is his account of the company, and it won the 2018 Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award.

Read it for the long, reported version of the Theranos story. *You Can See Everything* spends its time with Holmes and Billy Evans, and the book is Carreyrou's account of the company itself.

### The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley

Alex Gibney's film (HBO, released March 18, 2019) runs 119 minutes and is a quick way into the story. It uses footage of Holmes and her chief operating officer, Sunny Balwani, promoting the company, and interviews with whistleblowers, journalists, investors and former employees.

Holmes declined to take part, so she appears only in archive. In Fielder's film, she and Evans invited filmmakers to document the weeks before her sentence began. Watch *The Inventor* for the public Holmes in archive, then the new film for the view from inside.

### The Dropout

Elizabeth Meriwether's eight-episode Hulu miniseries (March to April 2022) is the drama version, based on the ABC Audio podcast hosted by Rebecca Jarvis. Amanda Seyfried plays Holmes and won the Emmy for lead actress in a limited series for it.

Seyfried is also in *You Can See Everything*, as herself and as a dramatized Holmes. The series is the one pick here that dramatizes the story with actors, where the book and the documentary report it.

## The Fielder Method

### Nathan for You

![Nathan for You (2013)](/blog/assets/what-to-watch-after-you-can-see-everything/nathan-for-you-tv.jpg)

*Nathan for You* (Comedy Central, February 2013 to November 2017, 32 episodes over four seasons) has Fielder advising struggling small businesses with outlandish plans. He created it with Michael Koman.

If you want one episode, watch the Season 4 finale, *Finding Frances*, which Errol Morris called "unfathomably great."

### The Rehearsal

![The Rehearsal (2022)](/blog/assets/what-to-watch-after-you-can-see-everything/the-rehearsal-tv.jpg)

The Rehearsal (HBO, two seasons of six episodes, 2022 and 2025) has Fielder help ordinary people prepare for hard conversations and life events by building sets and hiring actors to rehearse them. The film also uses staged material: Seyfried and Christopher Abbott perform dramatized reenactments.

Season 2 turns the idea on airline pilots, with Fielder building a partial replica of the Bush Intercontinental Airport terminal.

### The Curse

![The Curse (2023)](/blog/assets/what-to-watch-after-you-can-see-everything/the-curse-tv.jpg)

Fielder and Benny Safdie created *The Curse* (Showtime, ten episodes, November 2023 to January 2024), and it stars Emma Stone, Fielder and Safdie. A newlywed couple film an HGTV show while an alleged curse strains their marriage.

It is a satirical black comedy thriller. Like his other work, it is built around a staged television project, and Fielder acts in it himself, opposite Stone.

## Keeping the Thread on One Shelf

The two threads cross at the film, so they are easier to see side by side. Add the book, the documentary and the series to your Achriom library as you go, then ask the librarian what ties the Fielder shows to the Holmes ones. If you like lists that find a thread in a medium you did not expect, [What to Read After Severance](/blog/what-to-read-after-severance/) does it for workplace satire, and [The Novels Hiding Inside Denis Villeneuve's Films](/blog/the-novels-inside-denis-villeneuve-films/) does it for a director. [How to Find Patterns in Your Media Collection](/blog/how-to-find-patterns-in-your-media-collection/) shows how.

## Which to Start With

For a Theranos documentary in under two hours, start with *The Inventor*. Nothing to read first.

For the long version, read *Bad Blood*. It is Carreyrou's full account, by the reporter whose 2015 reporting questioned the company.

For the story as a drama, watch *The Dropout*. Eight episodes, and Seyfried is the connection to the film.

For more Fielder, start with *The Rehearsal*. It builds sets and hires actors, and the film stages scenes too. *Nathan for You*, his Comedy Central series, is there if you want more.

For a satirical black comedy thriller, try *The Curse*. Fielder acts in it, alongside Emma Stone.

## Common Questions

**What is You Can See Everything about?**

It follows Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, and her partner Billy Evans. They invited filmmakers to document their lives in the weeks before Holmes began a federal prison sentence for defrauding investors. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim directed it, and A24 released it in US theaters on October 16, 2026.

**Is You Can See Everything based on a book?**

No. It follows Holmes and Evans on camera. The book that tells the Theranos story is Bad Blood by John Carreyrou, who broke it in the Wall Street Journal.

**What should I watch first to understand Theranos?**

The Inventor, Alex Gibney's 119-minute HBO documentary, is a quick way in. Read Bad Blood if you want the full account, and watch The Dropout if you want the story as a drama.

**What should I watch if I like Nathan Fielder's style?**

Start with The Rehearsal, his HBO series built on sets and hired actors, as the film also stages scenes with actors. Then watch Nathan for You, his Comedy Central series, and The Curse, which he created with Benny Safdie.

**Do I need to see The Dropout before the film?**

No. The Dropout is worth seeing afterward because Amanda Seyfried, who played Holmes there, appears in the film as herself and as a dramatized Holmes.
